Halotherapy for coughing
A persistent cough can be exhausting and have a major impact on daily life. Many people struggle with a dry cough, stubborn mucus, a tickly cough or chronic coughing after a cold, bronchitis, long COVID, asthma or COPD.
At HaloClinic Nederland many visitors experience that halotherapy helps them loosen mucus more easily, breathe more freely and keep the airways cleaner.
HaloClinic Nederland has been among the first professional salt rooms in the Netherlands since 2011 and has been helping visitors with chronic airway and skin complaints for more than 15 years.
What is coughing?
Coughing is a natural reaction of the body to clear the airways. Sometimes coughing persists for a long time because the airways remain irritated or sensitive.
Coughing can be caused by:
- Colds
- Bronchitis
- Asthma
- COPD
- Long COVID
- Hay fever
- Allergies
- Stubborn mucus
- Irritated airways
- Smoke or air pollution
Common symptoms are:
- Dry cough
- Tickly cough
- Stubborn mucus
- Coughing fits
- Tightness of the chest
- Wheezing
- Tickle in the throat
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue caused by frequent coughing
Many people find that their airways remain sensitive for a long time.

How can halotherapy help with coughing?
Halotherapy recreates the microclimate of a natural salt cave. During the session a professional halogenerator disperses fine, dry salt particles throughout the room. While you sit or lie back and relax, you inhale this air naturally. The salt particles reach the airways and nose, where they kill bacteria, help dissolve mucus and support the immune system in regulating itself.
Many visitors experience that halotherapy can help to:
- Loosen stubborn mucus more easily
- Reduce coughing stimuli
- Breathe more freely
- Cleanse the airways more thoroughly
- Take deeper breaths
- Reduce tightness of the chest
- Keep the nose and throat more open
- Experience more relaxation
Many visitors also report that they can breathe more calmly after several sessions in the salt room.
Why do many people with a cough use halotherapy?
Support for the airways
Many coughs develop because mucus and irritation linger in the airways. Halotherapy is used by many visitors to keep the airways cleaner.
Microscopically fine dry salt particles
The dry salt aerosol disperses deep through the airways and is experienced by many visitors as pleasant when dealing with mucus and irritated airways.
A calm, relaxing environment
During a 60-minute session, body and breathing can come fully to rest.
Coughing due to mucus in the lungs
Many people with a chronic cough have mucus that is difficult to clear from the airways.
Many visitors experience that halotherapy helps to:
- Loosen mucus
- Cough up mucus more easily
- Clear the airways more effectively
- Take deeper breaths
- Feel more air
Many visitors notice the difference especially after several sessions.
